  • Question: Ever dreamt of waking up to snow-tipped mountains and the scent of pine trees?

How to reach

  • By road: Well-connected from Delhi (approx. 12–14 hours by Volvo bus or private car via NH3). Scenic drive through Kullu valley.
  • By air: Bhuntar Airport (Kullu–Manali) — ~50 km from Manali; short taxi ride. Flights are weather-dependent.
  • By train: Nearest major railhead is Joginder Nagar / Chandigarh; most travellers take train to Chandigarh then road transfer.

Where to stay

  • Luxury
    • The Himalayan (luxury resort with valley views)
    • Manuallaya Resort & Spa (spa + great location)
  • Mid-range
    • Snow Valley Resort
    • Apple Country Resort
  • Budget / Backpacker
    • Zostel Manali (hostel, great for solo travellers)
    • Backpacker Panda
  • Tip: Book in advance during peak seasons (Dec–Jan for snow, Apr–Jun for summer).

What to eat

  • Local & must-try
    • Siddu — steamed bread stuffed with fillings (Himachali staple).
    • Trout fish — fresh from the Beas (try a riverside café).
    • Thukpa & Momos — warming Tibetan dishes.
    • Himachali Dham — traditional festive meal (if you get a chance).
  • Cafés: Old Manali has many cozy cafés serving good coffee, continental breakfasts and desserts.

Activities

  • Adventure: Paragliding (Solang Valley), zorbing, skiing (Rohtang / Solang in winter), river-side rafting (seasonal).
  • Walks & culture: Stroll Old Manali, visit Hadimba Temple, Vashisht hot springs and local markets.
  • Photography: Sunrise from your hotel balcony, snowfields, and the bridge over Beas are picture-perfect.

Suggestions / Advice

  • Best time to visit: Oct–Feb for snow; Mar–Jun for pleasant weather and outdoor activities.
  • Packing: Layered clothing, good walking shoes, sunscreen, a light rain jacket. Winter visitors: heavy woolens, thermal wear.
  • Permits & cautions: Rohtang Pass requires permit/entry fee (check current rules). Roads can be narrow — hire experienced drivers for local trips.
  • Health & safety: Altitude is moderate — drink water, rest if you feel dizzy. Keep cash; internet can be spotty.
